And when you go through all those pages, like I did, you’ll notice that the answer to that question often isn’t the same.
That’s because Bangkok is an incredibly large city with all sorts of interesting areas that cater to different types of travellers.
So, in this article, I’ve come up with a summary including visualized data to make it super easy for you to know what Redditors say about where to stay in Bangkok.
Also, I will give you my personal opinion as I lived for several years in Bangkok and I know the city incredibly well.
Where to stay in Bangkok Reddit?
According to Redditors and the combination of at least twenty Reddit posts, the best areas to stay in Bangkok Reddit are Riverside, Sukhumvit, and Silom. Alternatively, you can also stay in either Chinatown, Sathorn, or Bangkok’s Old Town.
What do Redditors say about the best areas to stay in Bangkok?
When going through all the Reddit posts, you’ll notice that the following areas are by far the most recommended parts of the city.

Riverside
Riverside is an ideal area for those who want a bit of peace during the evening as Bangkok, in general, is a city that never sleeps.
Some of the top brands in the hotel industry have a hotel here as you can enjoy a spectacular riverside view in the evening.
Access to public transport is a bit limited compared to the more central areas, but Riverside is among the most desired areas, especially for families and couples.
Why choose Riverside?
Among the most peaceful parts of the city, even though that’s difficult in a chaotic city like Bangkok, and offers great riverside views, ideal for families and couples.

Sukhumvit
Sukhumvit is basically the heart of the city with modern skyscrapers all around.
The main reason why so many tourists as well as expats choose to stay in Sukhumvit is because of the perfect connection to the SkyTrain and the Metro.
Especially when you stay close to Asoke BTS Station, you can travel to basically every corner of the city with either the BTS or the MRT.
This will save you so much precious time.
Aside from having great access to public transport, Sukhumvit is an incredibly bustling part of the city with plenty of nightlife and dining options as well as a variety of shopping malls.
What’s not to like?
A lack of authenticity, especially compared to the older parts of the city and the fact that traffic is among the worst you can possibly think of.
Why choose Sukhumvit?
Great access to public transport which allows you to travel through the city without much hassle, access to all the modern amenities you can possibly think of, great nightlife and food scene.

Silom
Silom is very similar to Sukhumvit as it has great access to public transport.
The metro line that runs through Silom takes you straight to Bangkok’s Old Town as well as Chinatown, two areas that are incredibly popular among tourists.
In fact, Silom has better access to touristy areas compared to Sukhumvit.
In my personal opinion, Sukhumvit is more convenient because you simply have better access to other areas like Siam, Asoke, and Phrom Phong.
But these areas are useful for those who live in Bangkok, not those who visit Bangkok for the first time and want to explore the city’s highlights.
The only downside is that it takes more effort to get from the airport to Silom and visa versa.
Why choose Silom?
Great access to public transport and to the touristy parts of the city, ideal area for sightseeing, good nightlife scene, a bit difficult to reach from the airport, though.

Chinatown
Bangkok’s Chinatown, Yaowarat, is, in my opinion, a bit of an alternative area but I can’t deny the fact that it gained popularity in the last years.
Chinatown stands for street food and is probably the best area in Bangkok to find street food.
In recent years, the government issued a policy where street vendors had to move to designated areas and because of that, the street food scene in Bangkok radically changed.
Yes, you can still find some street food vendors on the streets, but most have moved to these designated areas.
Chinatown is full of street food and incredible local restaurants. But it’s quite a chaotic area and it feels like you’re in China, not Bangkok.
You do have access to the metro thanks to the metro line extension a couple of years ago, but it’s not as ideal as Sukhumvit or Silom.
Personally, the latter two would be my choice over Chinatown, but Redditors do recommend staying here.
Why choose Chinatown?
Unique area full of street food and local restaurants, unique nightlife scene, located near several major attractions, but keep in mind that the area is chaotic and you have limited access to public transport.

Sathorn
Sathorn is a large area right under Silom and as it’s connected to the Praya River, it’s also part of Bangkok’s Riverside.
There are several luxurious hotels to find in this part of Bangkok and many tourists tend to stay here.
But here is my personal opinion.
It only makes sense to stay here if you stay close to the BTS line.
Also, there aren’t that many attractions in this part of the city, meaning that you always have to travel a bit in order to reach the touristy parts of the city.
You do have access to Siphon Taksin BTS Station where you can find the pier with all the ferry and boat taxi connections.
Why choose Sathorn?
One of the luxury parts of Bangkok where you can find several famous hotels with spectacular views and service, but the connection to public transport is not that good if you don’t stay close to the BTS line.

Bangkok Oldtown
Bangkok’s Old Town is the area where you can find The Grand Palace and Wat Pho and is surrounded by a great variety of legendary restaurants including Jay Fay and Pad Thai Thip Samai.
You’re located near the river, which allows you to use the ferries and water taxis and nowadays, there is one metro station nearby, but the downside is that you don’t have great accessibility to public transport compared to other parts of Bangkok.
Also, nightlife is basically non-existent here.
For a night’s out, you have to visit one of the more vibrant areas of the city.
Why choose Bangkok Oldtown?
Authentic area with a great food scene, but lacks nightlife and great access to public transport.
