In brief:

Where to stay in Koh Lipe?

The best areas to stay in Koh Lipe are Sunrise Beach, Sunset Beach, Pattaya Beach, Walking Street and North Point Beach.

While most visitors tend to stay at Pattaya Beach, as it has such incredibly white sand beaches and it has a good nightlife scene, nature lovers should actually opt for either Sunrise Beach or Sunset Beach, simply because of the stunning nature and spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

Those on a stricter budget should stay around Walking Street.

Luckily, the island is not large at all so enjoying the nightlife scene while staying at Sunset Beach is not a difficult task.

In the next paragraphs, we dive much deeper into each recommended area.

The best areas to stay in Koh Lipe are:

1. Sunrise Beach

Although it’s considered the upscale area of Koh Lipe, with direct access to a magnificent beach and a great variety of amazing hotels, we believe that Sunrise Beach is the best area to stay at.

You also have great access to water activities, massages, bars, and restaurants and of course every morning, you can witness the beautiful sunrise.

While staying in this part of Koh Lipe feels secluded, within a five-minute walk, you’re at Koh Lipe’s walking street.

Some of the resorts offer quite some comfortable facilities such as swimming pools, beach bars, pool bars, and private beaches, which is ideal for couples, newlyweds, and families.

Those with a PADI license can explore the waters of Koh Lipe, but there are diving schools available too.

Yes, you will pay a premium price when staying at Sunrise Beach but it’s paradise on earth and worth the extra bucks.

For who: luxury traveller, traveller with a larger budget

Advantages: great variety of hotels, resorts with all the comforts available, great for scuba diving.

Disadvantages: pricy

2. Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach is located actually on the northwest side of the island, which is a bit confusing as sunsets usually take place on the west side of an island.

However, you’re still able to see the sunsets while remaining located centrally with Pattaya Beach, Sunrise Beach, North Point Beach, and Walking Street within walking distance.

This part is relatively quiet and has the most laid-back atmosphere of all.

Most of the accommodations are actually bungalows, meaning that you won’t find resorts or hostels, or backpack-friendly accommodations here.

At Sunset Beach, you can enjoy nature to the fullest so don’t expect any beach clubs except a few laid-back bars.

For who: nature-lovers

Advantages: perfect place if you want to enjoy Koh Lipe for its beauty.

Disadvantages: not many restaurants, bars, and facilities nearby.

3. Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach is probably the most popular part of the island.

The beach is beautiful and during the evening, it’s quite a vibrant area.

You’re located really close to Walking Street, although there is plenty going on at Pattaya Beach itself.

That also means that Pattaya Beach is a great place to party, contrary to Sunset Beach and even Sunrise Beach.

You’re located near the pier and there is a huge variety of hotels in all price ranges.

Most younger travelers will appreciate Pattaya Beach the most, although Walking Street is the budget-friendly area that’s close to Pattaya Beach, which we discuss in the next paragraph.

For who: party-minded traveller

Advantages: most popular area with nightlife, beaches, bars and clubs, beautiful beach.

Disadvantages: loudest area of the island.

4. Walking Street

Walking Street is the budget-friendly area in Koh Lipe and really close to the vibrant Pattaya Beach and the beautiful Sunrise Beach.

Although you don’t have direct access to a beach, a simple five minute walk and you’re already there.

It’s not the most beautiful part of the island, but you have access to the Walking Street itself for cheap and delicious (street) food and there are quite some nice bars that serve cheap drinks.

This part is the most-booked part of the island and especially during high season, it gets difficult to get a room last minute, so booking in advance in that period is highly recommended.

For who: budget-minded traveller

Advantages: affordable accommodations, access to street food, popular, vibrant area.

Disadvantages: not direct access to the beaches, often fully booked during high season.

Some of the best hotels to stay in Koh Lipe in this area are visually listed below:

5. North Point Beach

North Point Beach has just a few hotels and resorts and is a bit secluded compared to the other areas.

It is in fact a magnificent, white sand beach ideal for snorkeling and exploring the coast by kayak.

If you’re willing to walk a bit to the other beaches for more facilities, it’s definitely worth staying here and it’s a relatively quiet area.

But as said, there are no facilities nearby. For that, you have to go to Sunrise Beach.

For who: those seeking a beach of their own.

Advantages: you won’t find many hotels here so you have the beach a bit for yourself.

Disadvantages: for facilities, bars and restaurants, you have to visit the other beaches or Walking Street.
