Srinakarin Train Night Market 2024 – My Favourite Night Market In Bangkok

Srinakarin Train Night Market is one of the most popular night markets in Bangkok and as its younger brother Ratchada closed in 2021 due to the pandemic, Talad Rot Fai Srinakarin (which means Srinakarin Train Night Market) is the last of its kind.

In this article, we dive deeper into every aspect to enjoy this amazing market to the fullest.

You can easily navigate straight to each section by tapping on one of the following links.

With that being said, let’s jump straight to it.

What’s so special about Srinakarin Train Night Market?

The train night market at Srinakarin is a huge open-air market with several different areas that offers a huge variety of food and drinks, as well as souvenirs, gadgets, fashion items, and other goodies.

But it’s mostly known for the vintage area as well as the hotrod area.

Once you enter the market, which obviously is completely free, you will have to walk through several sections in order to reach the large warehouse zone where you can find all the vintage goodies.

At the first part of the market, there are countless street food vendors serving all sorts of street and finger food, both Thai and international.

Your choices are endless, ranging from Thai sushi to a döner kebab.

Once you pass this part, you will find an area where you have actual restaurants as well as the first vintage shops.

Although most of us won’t buy actual vintage, it’s an attraction on its own to discover unique things they sell like an old-school Super Nintendo or vinyl records of Elvis.

After this section, you will find more food but also a concentration of vendors selling clothes, bags, flip-flops, sunglasses, and many other useful things.

If you’re lucky, you can buy a good souvenir here as well, although the market at Jodd Fairs and the MBK Centre mall are more useful for this.

Why is that?

Srinakarin targets mainly Thai, while Jodd Fairs attracts much more foreigners and especially tourists.

After you pass the vendors and food sections, you’ll end up in the warehouse zone.

Inside these warehouses, you can find all sorts of vintage and antiques as well as hotrods and American muscle cars.

This part is the perfect spot to snap a great Instagrammable memory of this one-of-its-kind night market.

What happened to Ratchada Night Train Market?

Due to the pandemic, Ratchada had to close its doors.

The main reason for that is that it relied too much on tourists and during the pandemic, the Thai borders were closed to tourists.

Srinakarin on the other hand did manage to survive as it relied far less on tourists.

And as of now, the market is doing better than ever with an organization that hosts many events at the market as well.

Note: Jodd Fairs and Srinakarin are owned by the same organization and they professionalized a lot over the years.

Both night markets are excellent activities and nowadays are more different than each other than before.

In the same location as Ratchada Night Train Market is a new market opened named The One Ratchada. This market is not from the same organization as Srinakarin and Jodd Fairs.

What’s the difference between Jodd Fairs and Srinakarin Night Market?

There are several differences between Jodd Fairs and Srinakarin, and the biggest difference is already discussed here, namely the audience.

Jodd Fairs does attract far more tourists and Srinakarin.

That makes sense on many levels, but the most important one is the location.

Srinakarin isn’t located that conveniently for most tourists, while Jodd Fairs can be easily reached by metro.

One of the other major differences is the size as Srinakarin is huge, while Jodd Fairs is relatively large, but so much smaller in comparison with Srinakarin.

But here is the thing: thank God there are such differences as both markets are unique and worth visiting several times, something which ex-pats do regularly.

Why is the market at Srinakarin called a train night market?

The very first market organized by this organization was located on an old rail track, hence the name train night market.

But both Srinakarin and Ratchada (the market that is closed), are located nowhere near a train track.

To make things less confusing, the new Jodd Fairs is not called a train night market like its predecessor Ratchada.

What food should I not miss at the Srinakarin Night Market?

It’s impossible to name all the food and street food vendors who serve excellent food at Srinakarin Night Market as there are so many vendors.

On the official Facebook page of Srinakarin, you can easily scroll through the food pictures to give you an idea of what to expect.

Just know this: due to the government’s policy of removing street food vendors from the streets to designated areas to avoid blockage of pedestrian paths in Bangkok, night markets like Srinakarin became even more popular.

The organization tries to offer a good variety of food, meaning that you can’t have an endless amount of Pad Thai vendors.

Also, the quality of the (street) food at Srinakarin is of high-quality thanks to the organization.

There are two legendary vendors that are serving their famous food at both Srinakarin Night Market and Jodd Fairs Night Market, namely:

Diaw Maekhlong

Leng Saap or Spicy Pork ‘Mountain’ is an iconic dish created by Diaw Maekhlong and you’ve probably seen it on one of the social media feeds you’re using.

This was one of the highlights at Srinakarin.

Cheftui Ranger

The super tender ribs from Cheftui Ranger have always been one of the best-selling food items at Srinakarin.

How to get to Srinakarin Night Market?

Unfortunately, the construction of the BTS Line that passes by Srinakarin Night Market is not finished yet.

And due to the construction, the road that leads to Srinakarin is always jam-packed during rush hour.

The best way to get to Srinakarin Night Market is by taking the BTS to On Nut BTS Station and taking a taxi from there.

If possible, avoid rush hours.

Tip: if you stay near the Suvarnabhumi Airport, waiting for your flight back home the next day, then a visit to Srinakarin is a piece of cake as it’s located relatively close to it.

What are the opening times of Srinakarin Night Market?

Srinakarin Night Market is open from Thursday until Sunday from 5 PM (17:00) until 1 AM (01:00).

Jodd Fairs, the market that is located centrally in Bangkok and from the same organization as Srinakarin Night Market is open every day.
