El Barco de Buena Mar is a bit of a hidden gem. It’s located above a fish store and although the building does not look inviting at all, if you’re a seafood lover, you must visit this place. The food they serve here is typical Colombian coastal food. And the menu is not that extensive, but all the classic dishes that the coastal region of Colombia is known for are available. From one-pot creamy fish soup to deep-fried fish with patacones and coconut fried rice, you can all find it here. The quality of the seafood is outstanding. Another great thing is that you can also order smaller portions of these classic dishes. Ideal to order multiple dishes and share it together to fully enjoy those coastal flavours.

Mixtura De Mariscos (42,000 COP)*
For me personally, this was the absolute highlight of our dinner. It’s a plate full of different seafood and sauces. It’s sweet, salty, and a little sour, but so delicious. This is the regular version of it, and can easily be shared with another person. It comes with coconut rice and a large patacone. If you’re a seafood lover, this is a must-order!
Cazuela De Mariscos (29,000 COP)
Cazuela De Mariscos (29,000 COP)
This is the smaller version of the regular Cazuela De Mariscos. It’s a creamy seafood soup with prawns, Patacones, and coconut rice. One of the typical coastal specialties at this restaurant. Super tasty and authentic.
Ceviche De Camarones (17,000 COP)
Ceviche De Camarones (17,000 COP)
Simplicity at its best. One of the most popular dishes at Buena Mar is the Ceviche De Camarones (17,000 COP for a smaller portion), a Colombian version of prawn ceviche (with tomato of course) accompanied by crackers. A quick look around and you’ll notice that every table has ordered this starter, and so should you!
Patacones Con Suero (6,000 COP)
Patacones Con Suero (6,000 COP)
Although most main dishes come with at least one patacone with Suero (cream cheese), it’s worth ordering extra. Why? The Suero they use is the original one from the coastal region of Colombia and it’s hard to come by in Medellin. A true feast to eat these patacones with the sour cream cheese.
