Rocoto - Provenza

Rocoto is a popular restaurant that serves unique, Peruvian dishes. That means that sourness plays an important role in most dishes. Visiting Rocoto is a real treat for your taste palette and contrary to Colombian gastronomy, the food is much lighter and therefore a great alternative. The menu is extensive, with a good variety of excellent ceviches, as well as exciting rice dishes. And as the food is much lighter, it’s easier to save some room for dessert. If you have a sweet tooth, then you’re in for a treat. Expect high-quality ingredients, beautifully presented dishes, and most importantly, tasty Peruvian food.

Note: there are three branches in Medellin, namely in Sede Laureles, Provenza, and Sede Amsterdam Plaza.

Ceviche Saltado (41,900 COP)*

One of the many Ceviches you can order here. This one is a plate with chunks of white fish, calamari, and mussels served in a creamy sauce accompanied by yucca, avocado, and Peviuvian creole sauce. It’s one of their best-sellers and aside from the sourness, it’s also a nicely hearty dish.

Tiradito Furikaka (21,500 COP)

Tiradito Furikaka (21,500 COP)

For me personally, this was the biggest surprise during my visit. Slices of fresh fish are covered in homemade citrus mayonnaise and – this is the best part – topped with crispy salmon skin. It’s a unique creation and I highly recommend you try this flavour explosion.

Ceviche Tradicional de Maricsos (38,900 COP)

Ceviche Tradicional de Maricsos (38,900 COP)

One of the many other Ceviches that you can find at Rocoto, and this one is a traditional one. Chunks of fresh fish, squid, and prawns are covered in plenty of sourness and accompanied by mango, onion, and avocado. To give it some crunch, some crispy calamari is added to it as well. You can’t go wrong with this one, especially when you’re craving Ceviche.

Arroz Norteño (35,900 COP)

Arroz Norteño (35,900 COP)

The menu offers much more than Ceviche. If you’re more into savory and are not in the mood for sourness, then go for the Arroz Norteño. This is a plate full of sauteed rice, veggies, and coriander sauce. You can choose between prawns and chicken as the main protein. It’s a very comforting dish that has some similarities with Paella.

Spring Rolls (18,000 COP)

Spring Rolls (18,000 COP)

One of the tasty dessert options that everyone will love: spring rolls filled with chocolate. It’s quite a heavy dessert because of the deep-fried rolls. You can easily share it.

Supriro Rocoto (14,500 COP)

For a lighter, more exciting dessert, go for this dessert, which is a cream that’s based on Arequipe accompanied by meringues and strawberries.
