Mondongo's Medellin
One of the most famous restaurants in the city is Mondongo’s. Celebrities all over the world have eaten their famous Mondongo soup, and many of them are displayed on the Wall of Fame. Before you visit this insanely popular restaurant, it’s good to know that Mondongo soup is made from beef tripe, an ingredient not every tourist is fond of. However, the soup is packed with herbs and it’s actually a delicious, hearty soup. It’s also good to know that the restaurant serves more than only Mondongo’s, so make sure to check the recommended dishes below.
Note: there are two branches in Medellin, one in Poblado and the other one in Laureles.

One of the most famous Colombian dishes in Medellin and a typical soup from this region. This restaurant is always packed with hungry locals and curious tourists, and every single one of them wants to or already have tried this famous soup. Now, keep in mind that the soup is made with beef tripe, an ingredient many Westerners are not familiar with. If that’s not your thing, order the Ajiaco (chicken soup) instead. This soup comes in two sizes.

Ajíaco is a typical chicken soup that is a much more accessible dish to foreigners compared to Mondongo soup. The soup is served with shredded chicken and potatoes and comes with cream, capers, cilantro, and lime. The trick is to add these ingredients all together according to your preference. The result is a rich, savoury, and creamy chicken soup that is actually a complete meal. One of my favourite Colombian soups in general, and at Mondongo’s, they serve an amazing Ajíaco!

Aside from the legendary soups, Mondongo’s also serves this classic Bandeja Paisa. Contrary to many other Colombian restaurants, the portion here is much more decent. Normally, the platter is incredibly large. You can’t go wrong with this classic dish, and it’s a great alternative for those who are not into soups. Is it the best Bandeja Paisa in Medellin? Absolutely not. Is it tasty? 100%.
